A couple has been charged with aggravated child abuse after their baby was found in a motel room filled with marijuana smoke.

Tiffany Owten, 24, was also charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Anthony Dewayne Walker, 31, was also charged with possession of a handgun while under the influence of an intoxicant, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possessing a firearm with intent to go armed, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police responded last Friday to Motel 6 on Lee Highway after a caller said there was a strong odor of marijuana from the second floor. Police said upon nearing rooms 224 and 225 there was a very strong odor of marijuana in the open breezeway.

When Ms. Owten opened the door to room 224 the odor was even stronger, it was stated.

The three-month-old child was lying on her stomach face down on a bed.

Police found a firearm, ammunition and quantities of marijuana in the room. Walker denied that the gun was his, though ammunition was found inside his bag.

The baby was placed in the custody of an aunt as the couple went to jail.
