Corker, Fleischmann Respond To Opening Of U.S. Embassy In Jerusalem

  • Monday, May 14, 2018

Senator Bob Corker, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, on Monday released the following statement on the opening of the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem:

“Today’s ceremony on the 70th anniversary of the founding of Israel reaffirms our close and enduring partnership with the only democracy in the Middle East.

I applaud the Trump administration for following through on the bipartisan will of Congress to relocate the U.S. embassy, which is a long overdue acknowledgement of Jerusalem as Israel’s seat of government.”

Rep. Chuck Fleischmann said, “Congratulations to the people of Israel on the celebration of 70 years of statehood and the unveiling of the U.S. Embassy in their true capital city of Jerusalem. In celebrating the relocation of the U.S. Embassy, we also celebrate the friendship and partnership between the United States and Israel. Our longstanding alliance with the Jewish people is characterized by respect for peace and sovereignty, and it is my hope that in the years to come other nations will cultivate such diplomatic relations. I commend President Trump for acting quickly on his promise, just months prior, of recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s rightful capital, and keeping that promise today.”
