Frank Jones
Local basketball legend Frank Jones will be the new coach at East Hamilton School. Coach Jones retired from Hamilton County Schools in 2009 and returned in 2010 as an administrator on special assignment at East Hamilton School. After retirement, he also worked at Ooltewah Middle and Central High until he retired again in 2017.
He was All OVC Conference for Tennessee Tech during his sophomore, junior and senior years and was drafted by the NBA’s Buffalo Braves in 1976.
Officials said, "The contributions of Coach Jones to student-athletes is well known in the Chattanooga community." He was a teacher and basketball coach at Kirkman High School from 1978 until 1990. He taught, coached and was the athletic director at City High School in Chattanooga until 1993. He coached girls basketball at Tyner High School from 1993 to 1994 and boys basketball at Howard until 2000. Coach Jones took Kirkman to state runner-up, and his Howard team played in the state tournament three times during his time there.
Coach Jones left the court for an office as a school administrator in 2000 to become an assistant principal at Brainerd High School. He became principal at Brainerd High in 2004 and served in that role until his first retirement in 2009.
Coach Jones holds an undergraduate degree from Tennessee Technological University and a master’s from Trevecca Nazarene College.
He met with his new team at East Hamilton Friday morning.
