The County Commission on Wednesday chose Lorrie Miller and Stuart Brown to two-year terms as magistrates.
The commissioners then picked Ms. Miller to be the chief magistrate.
Not re-elected were Magistrate Brandy Spurgin-Floyd and longtime Chief Magistrate Randy Russell.
The initial vote was five for Ms. Miller and four for Mr. Russell. Ms. Miller got support from Chester Bankston, Sabrena Smedley, Greg Martin, Jim Fields, and Joe Graham. Mr. Russell was supported by Greg Beck, Tim Boyd, Warren Mackey, and Randy Fairbanks.
Under higher pay voted recently by the commission, Ms. Miller will receive $89,200 per year. Mr. Brown will get $80,000.
There were 10 applicants who were interviewed by the commission last Wednesday.
The commission recently voted to raise the pay from $65,000 to $80,000, with $4,000 annual raises after that until they reach $92,000. The chief magistrate gets 10 percent above that. The magistrates will be able to get county insurance and other benefits.
The magistrates set bonds and sign warrants from an office at the County Jail.
