U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will present 101 citizenship candidates to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee on Friday during two naturalization ceremonies. U.S. Magistrate Judge Christopher H. Steger will administer the oath of allegiance to the soon-to-be citizens.
It will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the third floor courtroom at Federal Court on Georgia Avenue across from Miller Park.
The 50 citizenship candidates at the morning ceremony originate from the following 30 countries: Belgium, Brazil, Burundi, Burma, Cambodia, Canada, China, Colombia, Cuba, France, Greece, Guatemala, Guyana, Iraq, India, Iran, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kosovo, Philippines, Mali, Mexico, Moldovo, Russia, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom and Venezuela.
The 51 citizenship candidates at the afternoon ceremony originate from the following 23 countries: Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Cuba, El Salvador, Germany, Guyana, Honduras, India, Iraq, Israel, Laos, Latvia, Liberia, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru, Poland, Russia, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe and Ukraine.
During fiscal year 2017, just over 715,000 people were naturalized at ceremonies nationwide.
