Daisy Elizabeth Grigsby Davis, of Chattanooga, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the age of 96. 

Daisy was born on Feb. 1, 1922, on a small farm in Franklin, Tn. She was the oldest child of John Booker Grigsby and Mabel Cleopatra Gregory Grigsby. She attended Vanderbilt University for two years on a Wall Scholarship before marrying Parma Charlton Davis in August 1941.

In 1953, the couple moved to Chattanooga and joined Northside Presbyterian Church where they were active participants in many of the church’s activities.

Daisy graduated from the University of Chattanooga in 1956 and began a 27-year teaching career.  Daisy taught 5th and 6th grades at Normal Park, James A. Henry, and Hixson Elementary Schools.   

Daisy relished spending time with her family and had many hobbies, including cooking, crafting, gardening, reading, sewing, traveling, and playing cards.  For the past twelve years, she enjoyed living at the Continental Condominiums, a warm community where she made many wonderful friends.

Daisy was preceded in death by her husband of over 64 years, Parma Charlton Davis, her son, John Edward Davis, and her brothers, John Booker Grigsby, Jr. and the Rev. Robert Gregory Grigsby. 

She is survived by two of her children:  Dr. Charlton (Barbara) Davis of John’s Island, SC, daughter-in-law Lou Davis of Chattanooga, and Nancy (William) Foster of Signal Mountain; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren: Jon (Jen) Davis of Augusta, ME, Mark Davis of John’s Island, SC, Jennifer (Trey) Smith, Sydney, Bedford and Drake of Murfreesboro, TN, Brent Davis of New York, NY, Dr. Brad (Julie) Davis of Chattanooga, David (Deborah) Foster, Abby, Maddie, Jake, and Sophie of Washington, DC, John (Megan) Foster of Washington, DC, and the Rev. Catherine Foster of Atlanta. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Clara Grigsby of Ellijay, GA, Betty Lou Grigsby of Huntsville, AL, and Betty Whitehead of Murfreesboro, TN.  Additionally, she is survived by many nieces and nephews.   

Daisy will be laid to rest beside her husband at the Hamilton Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.  The family will receive friends on Friday, June 15, from 5-7 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel.  The funeral will be held at Northside Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 16, at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Catherine Foster and the Reverend Doctor Paul Rader co-officiating.

Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
