Invaders of the United Championship Racing Alliance return to the Wartburg Speedway West of Knoxville Saturday night for the “Mayhem 40” $2,000 to-WIN event.
Races kicks off at 7 p.m. for Round #5 of the $16,000 championship season with a unique opportunity for many top ranked 604/Crate race teams.
It’s been over a year since the UCRA hosted an event at the 1/3 mile high banked clay oval, when local racer Jake Teague of Petross captured the checkers. Raymond Sheperd has a top crop of Late Model weekly competitors, but one that stands out is the “Dirty White Boy” Anthony White (# 2x) of Clinton, a former multi-track champion, that just so happens to be chasing this seasons UCRA $5,000 championship title. Besides Teague racing close to home these days around Wartburg; Eddie King Jr, Greg Martin, Dan Tipton, Drew Kennedy are all local favorites and fun to watch. Cleveland Tennessee’s “Purple Punk” Jimmy Elliott (# J39) is leading the UCRA points and has a string of top 5’s this year that’s very impressive. Elliott finished second to White just this past Saturday in neighboring Tazewell Speedway. Last year's $1,000 RotY Award winner Jess Lowe (# 5J) of Crossville is back into the UCRA picture after a pair of absences kicked off 2018.
Expect Elliott to bring his “Mohawk Nation” tribe to chase the 40 lapper Saturday. Michael Courtney of Knoxville leads all $1,000 Rookie of the Year bonus candidates which includes Georgia’s Devin Stuart and possibly Alabama’s Sam Seawright. White is gaining ground in the points after Tazewell and a week prior “Flirtin With Disaster” leading Fort Payne Motor Speedway’s Round #3 event with 10 laps remaining.
