Hixson, James "Jim" (Wildwood)

James “Jim” Hixson, 86, passed away on June 19, 2018 in Wildwood, Ga. He was born in Chattanooga on Aug. 27, 1931. He spent the majority of his life, thereafter, living in Wildwood with his wife and family. 

Jim completed courses in supervisory and management at Chattanooga State. He belonged to the IBEW Local 175, where he worked as an electrician. Jim enjoyed traveling, and his work allowed him to travel to many different parts of the country. He worked on New York City’s World Fair in the ‘60’s, as well as overseeing the construction of the Museum of Natural History in New York.

Not only did he travel for work, but he also enjoyed traveling with family. He and his wife visited almost all of the states together. He enjoyed fishing in Alaska, Costa Rica and various Canadian provinces. 

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Martha Cross Hixon; children, Wes Hixon, Paul Hixon and Alex Hixon; two grandchildren, Megan (Stu) Thomas and Bailey (Jonathon) Bullard; three great-grandchildren; and cousins, Gary (Doris) Hasty, Beverly Bowman and Clarence Bauer.

Jim is preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Gilbert Wilson and his daughter, Brenda Hixon Tanguay.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 20 from 4-8 p.m. and Thursday, June 21 from noon-2 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 11415 S. Main St. in Trenton. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 21 at the funeral home and officiated by Pastor Steve Cook, followed by a graveside service at Lakewood Memory Gardens West.
