220,339 Motorists Have Been Issued The "In God We Trust" License Plate

  • Friday, June 29, 2018

County Clerk Bill Knowles said 220,339 motorists in Tennessee have now been issued the “In God We Trust” license plate since it was first offered last July. Included in this total are 7,605 Hamilton County motorists who requested the special plate during the past year.

The legislation sponsored by State Representative Bill Sanderson from Kenton, Tn., passed with an 85-0 vote in the House. It was subsequently passed by the Senate and signed into law by Governor Bill Haslam.

The law creating the optional plate calls for a one-time $2.00 fee in addition to normal registration fees. Requests for the plate are made when swapping an existing tag, renewing a current tag, or making application for a vehicle title.
