The Respiratory Care program at Chattanooga State Community College has been recognized by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). The Distinguished RRT Credentialing Success Award, an achievement award, is presented as part of CoARC’s continued efforts to value the RRT credential as a standard of professional excellence.

Program director Sharon Hall will receive a certificate of recognition during the CoARC Summer Forum reception in San Antonio, Tx., on July 17.

“Our Respiratory Care program has had a long history of student success under the leadership of Ms.

Hall and the faculty. Chattanooga State is fortunate to have such high quality and dedicated individuals as part of this program and I congratulate them on this prestigious CoARC award,” said Mark Knutsen, Dean, Nursing & Allied Health

Selection for this award is based on key rigorous accreditation metrics. Selected programs were required to have three or more years of outcomes data, accreditation without a progress report, documented RRT credentialing success of 90 percent or above, and have met or exceeded established CoARC thresholds for CRT credentialing success, retention, on-time graduation rate, and overall employer and graduate satisfaction.

According to U.S. News Best Jobs Rankings, respiratory therapists enjoy a 16th place ranking in Best Health Care Jobs, and #21 for 100 Best Jobs. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates employment growth of about 23 percent, an increase of more than 30,000 positions by 2026.
