Charles Lowery, First County SRO, Retires From Sheriff's Office As Deputy Chief

Hamilton County Deputy Chief Charles Lowery, Jr.,was honored as he retired after 41 years of service.

In recognition of Deputy Chief Lowery’s retirement, numerous family, friends, and law enforcement personnel attended the ceremony in support from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and several other local and state law enforcement agencies.

Deputy Chief Lowery was awarded the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office’s Exceptional Service Medal, which is the first time this medal has been issued in the history of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Chief Lowery began his career in 1977. As Deputy Chief of Law Enforcement, he has been responsible for commanding the day to day operations of the law enforcement arm of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. This includes the Uniformed Services Division, Criminal Investigation Division, Court Security Division, Traffic Division, School Resource Officer Division, Property and Evidence, and the Civil Process Division.

He has served in numerous capacities within the HCSO including positions in the School Resource Officer Division, Traffic Division, Patrol Division, and Training Division. He has the distinction of not only being the very first School Resource Officer (SRO) in Hamilton County, but the first African American School Resource Officer in Hamilton County. He was also the first African American to be hired by the HCSO with a college degree as well as the first African American Motorcycle Traffic Investigator in the HCSO. 

Sheriff Jim Hammond said, "His steadfast commitment to the Sheriff’s Office has earned him the highest level of trust, loyalty and dedication from those who have had the pleasure to work with  him."

On hand for the ceremony were Deputy Chief Lowery’s wife, Patricia, his son, HCSO Corrections Sergeant Charles Lowery, III, and his daughters’ Kimberly Sullivan and LaTrisha Lowery. Also on hand for the ceremony were Deputy Chief Lowery’s mother, Irene Lowery, his sister, Rose Marie Lowery-King, his sister, Charlene Taylor, his cousin, Rhonda Churchill, his pastor, Reverend Ternae Jordan, Sr., and many of his friends and colleagues. He was also joined by his grandchildren, Maya Adams, Oliver Sullivan, III, Aria Lowery, Olivia Lowery, and Madison Lowery.Deputy Chief Lowery and his wife Patricia have been married for 41 years and together they have three children, Kimberly, LaTrisha, and Charles, III. Deputy Chief Lowery’s son, Charles, III, serves as a Sergeant in the HCSO Corrections Division and is following in his father’s footsteps.

Deputy Chief Lowery is a deacon at Mount Canaan Baptist Church. Deputy Chief Lowery has five grandchildren and is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University.
