Police Blotter: Thief Gets Bell Peppers, Eggplant; Blonde Drives Onto Sidewalk At Broad Street Construction Zone

A woman who lives on Williams Street said sometime during the night, an unknown party came onto their property and stole four flower plants, three bell pepper plants and an eggplant plant. She says the plants were pulled up and carried off. She says the unknown tried to get a tomato plant but only broke it off.

The night clerk at Baymont Inn reported that she needed assistance checking a room that had been rented to an unknown person. Raheem Taylor and Anthonique Burnett were found in the room and admitted to paying another clerk an unknown amount of money for the room. Apparently, the other employee has been pocketing money on the side and allowing people to stay who may not otherwise be allowed to rent a room, the report says. The two left at her request, and the clerk was to address the issue with management.

A manager at Steinmart on Gunbarrel Road said an unknown black male came into the store and tried on a pair of Nike shoes. He then walked out of the store still wearing the shoes.

Also at the Steinmart, a white male came in the store. He went into a fitting room. He came out and hugged a female customer. He then left the store without purchasing anything at 3:25 p.m. The female customer left the store without purchasing anything. An employee at the store went into the fitting room and found an empty fragrance box as well as some clothing tags. It appears no one but the white male entered the fitting room, police said. The male was described as bald with a white and blue striped polo shirt with dark pants.

The owner of Live Life Outdoors on River Street said somehow the glass door to his business got shattered. He said the video surveillance does not show how the door was damaged. The business was not entered. He estimates that it will cost $500 to replace the door

In the 3200 block of Broad Street, Police arrived on scene and spoke to two victims who stated that a man pulled down his pants and exposed himself. When Police asked the man about the incident he just started talking about other things and never answered any of their questions.

A woman who works at Total Fitness Kickboxing on E. Brainerd Road said an Hispanic male has been coming by the business and staring in the window at the females working out. She said the male showed her a Mexican ID. She said he appears intoxicated when he comes by. He has come in the business before asking about signing up for classes. She said it is uncomfortable to her and the others in the business when he stares at them. He was last seen wearing a black jacket. She said she has seen him go to a residence on Thelmeta Avenue. Police relocated to the house on Thelmeta Avenue and knocked on the door. A Hispanic male wearing a black jacket opened the door. He was asked to come outside and speak with police. He said no and shut the door. Police knocked on the door again. An Asian female answered the door. She said she did not speak English well. She said she would call someone. An Asian male showed up. He did not speak English. He called someone and handed the phone to police. The man on the phone said he has numerous Hispanic males that live at the residence that do work for him. He sent the male that was on scene to look in the house for the male that answered the door. The male said he did not locate anyone. The man on the phone said he would speak to everyone and tell them not to go back to the kickboxing gym.

Police worked a Peeping Tom case at Hamilton Place Mall. An officer working security at the mall was notified by a female that a man was videoing by cell phone her changing while in a changing booth at the Express firm. Police said the man immediately erased the video upon confrontation with the woman. The man was banned from all CBL property for one year and escorted outside the mall. The woman refused prosecution at the time of the incident

A woman said she was traveling west on the center lane of I-24 about a quarter mile before mile marker 182 and hit a pothole. She said now her car is out of alignment.

At West 13th Street and Market, Police met with Michael Smith. Mr. Smith stated as he was working on the construction zone, a gray Honda Civic drove on the sidewalk around the construction causing damage to the vehicle and turning right going towards Broad Street. Mr. Smith stated the driver was a white female with blonde hair.
