Monday marked the beginning of this summer’s Technical Theatre Workshop at the Chattanooga Theatre Center. Unlike other sessions in the Summer Academy, the Technical Theatre Workshop teaches the ins and outs of the making of a theatrical production prior to audiences even laying an eye on it.
This four-week workshop, led by UTC scenic designer Adam Miecielica, broadens knowledge of the typical theatre experience. The art that goes into enhancing theatrical performance is taught and showcased.
Students learn how to design and execute sets, coordinate costuming, and create and implement lighting and sound effects for CTC shows.
Aside from these skills used in the theatre, participants also learn practical life skills such as analysis, creative problem solving, critical thinking, and the collaborative process.
This Summer Academy workshop runs through Aug. 3 in line with the Musical Theatre Academy. You can see the amazing work of the Technical Theatre Workshop participants in all three Musical Theatre Academy performances. Those are scheduled for July 20, July 27, and Aug. 3. All take place at 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Admission is $5.
