Carpenter, Rev. William LaRoy (LaFayette)

Reverend William LaRoy Carpenter, 78, of LaFayette, went home to be with The Lord on Monday, July 9, 2018. He was born in Chattanooga to the late William Lloyd and Annie Marie Mayberry Carpenter. He resided his childhood in Chattanooga, where he was a graduate of Kirkman High School – Class of 1958 and had perfect attendance all 12 years. He served the City of Chattanooga for over 20 years as an auxiliary policeman. He retired from Provident/Unum, where he was the facilities manager. He had resided in Rossville for several years, and the past 30 years in LaFayette. He served as pastor at Peace in the Valley Baptist Church. He enjoyed serving his church family, playing the guitar and working on computers.

He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-six years, Faye Carpenter.

He is survived by his children, Junior (Jennifer) Carpenter, of Rossville and LaNette (Charlie) Vaughn, of Ringgold; seven grandchildren, J.R. Carpenter, Charlie Vaughn, Brittani Williams, Lee Carpenter, Kassie Carpenter, Nikolas Carpenter and Nikole Carpenter; five great-grandchildren, Raylan Vaughn, Eli Williams, Emmie Williams, Ellie Williams and Ava Vaughn; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-9 p.m. and Friday morning prior to the service. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 13 at noon in the chapel, with Rev. Herschel Greeson and Rev. Eric Greeson officiating. Burial will follow in the Lafayette Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Karen Saxton, 64, Killed In Crash On Highway 58 Saturday Afternoon

One person was killed in a crash on Highway 58 on Saturday afternoon. The victim was identified as Karen Saxton, 64.
