A new bond was built between Morning Pointe of Collegedale at Greenbriar Cove residents and Wolftever Creek Elementary School students, thanks to the professionals at Home Depot and Sherwin Williams. Associates from the two companies partnered to craft and donate four new benches -- two for the school and two for the assisted living community.
With expert guidance, the students and seniors put their craftsmanship skills to the test during the two-day project, helping build and paint the colorful benches, and leaving their hand prints in the fresh paint to remember the experience.
Between tasks, the seniors read stories with their young volunteers who had fun building new memories with their friends several generations apart.
The new benches will go in the courtyards to be enjoyed by residents for years to come.
"We are beyond delighted to receive such a generous gift," said Jennifer McFarland, executive director at Morning Pointe. "This project will always have a place in our hearts as well as our beautiful assisted living community."
Morning Pointe partners with local businesses, schools and organizations to create meaningful moments for seniors as part of the life enrichment program.
