Weekly Road Construction Report

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County:

I-75 North Exit 1 interchange reconfiguration project at mile marker 1:   Work on this project continues. There is now only one exit ramp that allows drivers to turn both east and west on Ringgold Road at a signalized intersection. Traffic has been shifted onto the newly constructed portion of Camp Jordan Pkwy., and the intersection (I-75 NB off-ramp and SR-8/Camp Jordan Pkwy.) is now controlled by a traffic signal. US-27 (I-124) widening from I-24/US-27 interchange to north of the Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River, including widening the Olgiati Bridge:   Work on this project continues with numerous activities occurring in the median of US-27. Motorists should be alert for construction vehicles entering and leaving the left traffic lane in both the northbound and southbound directions. Between the hours of 7 p.m.-6 a.m. on Thursday night, the left lane of northbound US-27 will be closed from I-24 to the Olgiati Bridge, and the left lane of southbound US-27 will be closed from the Olgiati Bridge to MLK Blvd. These closures are to facilitate the replacement of the existing guardrail with concrete traffic barrier in the median on US-27 between 4th Street and 6th Street. The 12th Street tie-in ramp to US-27 South has been temporarily closed. This closure will be in place through Sept. 18. Detours are posted. Motorists should exercise caution when traveling through the construction zone and pay close attention to the detour signage posted. The speed limit on US-27 in the construction zone remains 45 MPH. Weather permitting, the contractor may implement temporary lane/shoulder closures on weeknights between the hours of 7 p.m.-6 a.m. At least one lane will remain open in each direction on US-27. THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary. RESTRICTIONS: Northbound US-27 off-ramp Exit 1C to 4th Street is restricted to a maximum width of 11 Feet. US-127 (SR-8) slope repair of Signal Mountain Blvd at log mile 15.9:   During this report period, the contractor will have one lane closed while performing slope stabilization operations. Temporary traffic signals will be put in place and activated on Thursday on either end of the project to control traffic. Additionally the speed limit has been lowered to 20 MPH in the construction zone. Additional flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  RESTRICTIONS: Reduced to one 12-foot lane.  Estimated project completion date is September. [GSI/Maintenance/MAINT]  

US-11/64 SR-2 (Brainerd Rd./Lee Hwy.) resurfacing from east of Moore Road (LM 13.85) to east of Airport Road (LM 15.84):  The contractor has begun lowering manholes and catch basins. This will take place Monday through Friday between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. This work may affect either direction of US-11/64 (Brainerd Road/Lee Highway) between Moore Road and Airport Road. The contractor will begin milling and paving on Aug. 5, after which the contractor will have intermittent lane closures for resurfacing operations Sunday through Thursday from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is November. [Wright Brothers Construction Company, Inc./Pruett/CNS228]  

SR-320 (East Brainerd Road) grading, drainage, installation of signals, construction of seven retaining walls and paving from east of Graysville Road to east of Bel-Air Road:   During this report period, the contractor will have intermittent lane closures between 9 a.m.-2 p.m.  This work may affect either direction of East Brainerd Road or side streets from Graysville Road to Bel-Air Road. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is August. [Jones Bros. Contractors, LLC/Pruett/CNN383] 




Commission To Hold Hearing On Chattanooga Gas Company Rate Increase Petition

The Tennessee Public Utility Commission will hold a public hearing on a petition for a general rate increase by Chattanooga Gas Company. The company has requested an increase of approximately $6.2 million, which would equate to an average increase of 19.5 percent across all Chattanooga Gas customers. Trustee Hullander Says Airbnb Will Remit Hotel/Motel Tax Directly To His Office; It Has 600 Local Hosts With $7 Million Annual Income

Trustee Bill Hullander said Wednesday that Airbnb has agreed to directly remit hotel/motel tax for its 600 hosts in Hamilton County to his office. Mr. Hullander said prior to the agreement that his office had difficulty locating those renting out rooms or homes and had just 90 on the books. County Attorney Says All Votes Were Counted In Recent Election Snafu, And None Affected Outcomes Of Races

County Attorney Rheubin Taylor, who is also the lawyer for the Election Commission, said all ballots were counted despite a recent election snafu.
