On the weekend of Aug. 11-12, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will present living history programs at Snodgrass Hill focusing on the experiences of the 58th North Carolina Infantry, a unit which participated in the attack on Snodgrass Hill. Programs will take place at Snodgrass Hill (Tour Stop 8). Follow the special event signs to get to Snodgrass Hill.
"On Sunday, Sept. 20, 1863, the men of the 58th North Carolina found themselves in a place not all that different from home. Most of the men hailed from the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains in the western corner of North Carolina, and as they marched towards Chickamauga, the hills of East Tennessee and Northwest Georgia must have reminded them, in some way, of home," officials said.
At 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday and at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, living historians will share accounts and experiences of men from the 58th North Carolina, which suffered tremendous casualties as they stormed Snodgrass Hill late in the afternoon on Sept. 20, 1863.
