Chattanooga firefighters were dispatched to a house fire at 3403 Gay Street around 2 a.m. on Friday. The one-story, wood-framed structure was fully engulfed in flames when the first firefighters arrived on the scene.
Captain Chris Fryar with Engine 15 said they had to cut a lock on a gate at the street to gain access to the property. With the structure already totally involved in flames, the firefighters fought the fire defensively, working to put the fire out from the outside and making sure the flames didn't spread to neighboring homes.
No injuries were reported.
Battalion Chief David Thompson, Jr., the incident commander, said the house was in the process of being renovated and was not occupied. The house was considered a total loss, with damages estimated at $70,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Chattanooga Police and Hamilton County EMS also provided assistance on the scene.
