Weekly Road Construction Report

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County:

I-75 North Exit 1 interchange reconfiguration project at mile marker 1:   Work on this project continues. There is now only one exit ramp that allows drivers to turn both east and west on Ringgold Road at a signalized intersection. Traffic has been shifted onto the newly constructed portion of Camp Jordan Pkwy., and the intersection (I-75 NB off-ramp and SR-8/Camp Jordan Parkway) is now controlled by a traffic signal. US-27 (I-124) widening from I-24/US-27 interchange to north of the Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River, including widening the Olgiati Bridge:   Work on this project continues with numerous activities occurring in the median of US-27. Motorists should be alert for construction vehicles entering and leaving the left traffic lane in both the northbound and southbound directions. The 12th Street tie-in ramp to US-27 South has been temporarily closed. This closure will be in place through September. Detours are posted. On Thursday and Friday nights, from 7 p.m.-6 a.m., a temporary ramp closures will be in place for the southbound US-27 off ramp to W. 4th Street and the W. 4th Street on ramp to southbound US-27. Southbound US-27 to W. 4th Street traffic will be redirected to Exit 1B, merging onto the eastbound Martin Luther King Blvd., then left on to Chestnut Street then northbound to 4th Street. The on ramp from W. 4th Street to southbound US-27 will be redirected northbound onto US-27 to the Manufacturers Road Exit, then left on Manufacturers Road and then right to southbound US-27 Motorists should exercise caution when traveling through the construction zone and pay close attention to the detour signage posted. The speed limit on US-27 in the construction zone remains 45 MPH. Weather permitting, the contractor may implement temporary lane/shoulder closures on weeknights between the hours of 7 p.m.-6 a.m. At least one lane will remain open in each direction on US-27. THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary. RESTRICTIONS: Northbound US-27 off-ramp Exit 1C to 4th Street is restricted to a maximum width of 11 Feet. US-127 (SR-8) slope repair of Signal Mountain Boulevard at log mile 15.9:   During this report period, the contractor will have one lane closed while performing slope stabilization operations. Temporary traffic signals are in place on either end of the project to control traffic. Additionally the speed limit has been lowered to 20 MPH in the construction zone. Additional flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is September. [GSI/Maintenance/MAINT] 

SR-153 resurfacing from I-75 (LM 0.00) to Shallowford Road (LM 2.60), including bridge deck repair:   This project will involve nightly lane closures (8 p.m.-6 a.m.) to support the project activities. This will involve both NB & SB lane closures, Sunday through Thursday. Project completion date is Nov. 30. Estimated project completion date is November. Cleaning of the McCallie Tunnel on US-11 (US-64, SR-2), the Stringers Ridge Tunnel on US-127 (SR-8), and the Bachman Tubes on US-41 (US-76, SR-8):   The McCallie Tunnel will be closed for cleaning on Wednesday (8 p.m.-6 a.m.). This will involve a flagging operation, with one way traffic. Also, the Stringers Ridge tunnel will be cleaned Aug. 22 (8 p.m.-6 a.m.). Bachman Tubes will be cleaned on Aug. 23 (8 p.m.-6 a.m.). Both the Stringer's Ridge and the Bachman Tube cleaning will have a signed detour to direct traffic. Estimated project completion date is June 2019. [Diamond Specialized, Inc./Micka/CNS206] 

SR-320 (East Brainerd Road) grading, drainage, installation of signals, construction of seven retaining walls and paving from east of Graysville Road to east of Bel-Air Road:   During this report period, the contractor will have intermittent lane closures between 9 a.m.-2 p.m. This work may affect either direction of East Brainerd Road or side streets from Graysville Road to Bel-Air Road. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is August. [Jones Bros. Contractors, LLC/Pruett/CNN383] 

US-11/64 SR-2 (Brainerd Rd./Lee Hwy.) resurfacing from east of Moore Road (LM 13.85) to east of Airport Road (LM 15.84):   The contractor has begun lowering manholes and catch basins. This will take place Monday through Friday between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. This work may affect either direction of US-11/64 (Brainerd Road/Lee Highway) between Moore Road and Airport Road. The contractor will begin milling and paving on Aug. 26, after which the contractor will have intermittent lane closures for resurfacing operations Sunday through Thursday from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed. WWTA Releases Timetable That Would Have Ooltewah Sewage Treatment Plant In Operation By 2025; Public Meetings Set At Central High

The Hamilton County Water and Wastewater Treatment Authority has released a timetable that would have a new sewage treatment in Ooltewah in operation by 2025.   A request for a site at Mahan Gap Road goes before the Planning Commission at Nov. 12 at 1 p.m. It goes to the County Commission Zoning Committee on Dec. 12 and the full commission on Dec. 19.    ... Mark Hazelwood's Attorneys Ask That He Be Allowed To Spend Christmas With His Family

Attorneys for former Pilot Travel Centers president Mark Hazelwood are asking that he be allowed to spend Christmas with his family before self-reporting to begin serving a 12 years and six months federal prison sentence. Judge Curtis Collier of Chattanooga on Sept. 26 allowed Hazelwood to remain at his Knoxville home until after Thanksgiving. He set the report date at Nov. 26. ... (click for more)
