Frank “Woody” Woods, Sr., 77, of Ooltewah, passed away on Monday, August 13, 2018, in a local hospital.
He was a graduate of Howard High School Class of 1959, Southern Technical Institute and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Woody was a veteran of the United States Air Force and retired from E.I dupont de Nemours and the State of Tennessee. He was a member of the East Third Street Church of Christ and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. From his youth, Woody loved airplanes and became a licensed pilot. He built and flew detailed model planes and built boats as well.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael B. Woods.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mizora "Tina" Gary Woods; daughters, Tracy (Ellis) Sam and Kellye Woods; son, Frank (Miranda) Woods, Jr.; grandchildren, Chasity (Donnell) Myers, Kayla Sam, Frank "Trey" Woods, III, Nadia Woods, Aryanna Woods and Nicholas Woods; great-grandchildren, Joshua Myers and Kadence Myers; brother, David (Willena) Woods; fraternal nephews, Michael Woods and David Woods, II; fraternal niece, Jasmine Woods; sisters-in-law, Brenda Woods, Elnora Kirby, Elizabeth Bonds and Minnie Witcher; life-long and devoted friends, Vaughn “Pago” Phipps, Johnny Patmon, Yarnell and Bonny Cooke; his trusted Labrador Retriever, Willie-G and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Woody will lie in state on Monday, Aug. 20, after noon at Taylor Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, Aug. 21, at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel with Brother John R. Taylor, Sr. as the eulogist. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
