Harold Austin Was Hamilton County's Crown Jewel

My dear friend, longtime public servant, Mr. Harold Austin, will be greatly missed.

He was with the state of Tennessee and Hamilton County for many years.

Harold Austin was Hamilton County’s crown jewel.

He was beloved by generations in municipal and state government. He knew so many involved in local, state, and federal roadway programs.  The list would be extraordinary.

I had the honor of working on “the hill” at T-DOT in the mid 1980’s. Harold Austin ran that operation, and was beloved. He could move a crew into operation like no one else.

It did not matter where you worked in Hamilton County, if it was road related, Harold Austin was a name at the epicenter.

I remember when Hamilton County recruited Mr. Austin.  As a county, we were so fortunate to get him as the leader of the Hamilton County Highway Department.

I treasured the times working with Mr. Austin on municipal projects in the past.

Everyone called him Harold, but he will always be Mr. Austin to me, a wonderful and professional man that will be missed.

My deepest condolences to his family, friends, the Hamilton County Highway Department, and his friends at the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
