Morning Pointe's Mastering Memory Care Golf Tournament Raises Nearly $8,000

  • Tuesday, August 21, 2018

Although 11 teams took their best games to Morning Pointe of Athens’s first annual “Mastering Memory Care” golf tournament, presented by Guardian Investment and Accounting, seniors across the Southeast were the true winners at this landmark event. The golf tournament took place at Ridgewood Golf Course in Athens, Tn., and raised nearly $8,000 for nursing scholarships, caregiver support, and education.

After 18 fun and challenging holes, the Hearth Hospice team emerged triumphant, followed by first runner-up Guardian Investment & Accounting. The NHC HealthCare, Caris Healthcare, and Pharmacy Home Care of East Tennessee teams tied for second runner-up.

“We were so excited to see so many community business leaders come out and support the tournament and Morning Pointe of Athens,” said Heather Trew, the executive director at the assisted living community. “It was great to see such enthusiasm for a very worthy cause. We look forward to making the ‘Mastering Memory Care’ golf tournament an annual tradition.”

Tobbie Woody, TCAT Athens 2018 Morning Pointe Foundation scholar, also spoke at the tournament. A full-time student, wife, and mother, Ms. Woody is extremely grateful to the Morning Pointe Foundation for helping make her nursing education possible. On her application for the scholarship, she shared her story: “I had to stop working a full-time job that provided and contributed to my family. This adjustment has not been easy...” However, thanks in part to the scholarship she received from the Morning Pointe Foundation, Ms. Woody is now able to pursue her nursing degree. The funds raised from past Morning Pointe Foundation events contributed to Ms. Woody’s scholarship, and the money raised from the golf tournament will help fund scholarships for other aspiring nursing students like Ms. Woody.
