The Senate health committee will hold an oversight hearing on the Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday, Aug. 29.
Chairman Lamar Alexander Tuesday said, “Congress has taken a number of steps to help the FDA keep up with the rapid pace of discoveries while continuing to ensure the safety of new drugs and devices. During this hearing, we will hear from the FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb about how the FDA is balancing encouraging innovative treatments and therapies while protecting patients from unsafe and ineffective treatments, and explore what else Congress can do to help ensure Americans are benefiting from biomedical research.”
Over the last two years, the HELP Committee has worked to pass 21st Century Cures and the FDA Reauthorization Act to make sure FDA has the tools it needs to take advantage of this time in science.
