GreenSteps And Wilderness Society Partner For Riverwalk Cleanup On Saturday

  • Wednesday, August 22, 2018

Chattanooga-based GreensSteps is partnering with The Wilderness Society, America’s leading public lands conservation group, for a Saturday event to clean up the city’s riverfront.

Chattanooga’s renowned Riverwalk begins at Chickamauga Dam, a TVA hydroelectric dam just east of downtown.

The trash pick-up is designed to call attention to the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which has provided funding for open spaces – including Chickamauga Dam - since 1964. Without congressional reauthorization, the LWCF will expire September 30.

The event begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m, with lunch provided for volunteers at 12:30 p.m.

The Wilderness Society has been the leading organization protecting the nation’s shared public lands since 1935. Through its conservation and public engagement efforts, it works to preserve the nation’s rich natural legacy for future generations.

GreenSteps educates and assists the local community in eliminating litter around popular trails, parks and open spaces, providing incentives for the removal of trash.
