Pediatric Oncology Nurse Practitioner And Nurse For More Than 50 Years

Charlotte Gray Hughes, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, died on August 19, 2018 after a lengthy illness.

A pediatric oncology nurse practitioner, and nurse for more than 50 years, Charlotte started her career in the Children’s Hospital on Glenwood Avenue where she worked for more than 40 years. Most recently before her illness, she worked for Comprehensive Medical Care. She was truly loved by thousands of her patients and their families who thought of her as their “Dr. Charlotte.” She was a member of the North River Church of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, a volunteer with the Ronald McDonald House and Candlelighters Family Support Group.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ruth Gray, and leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 55 years, Herschel Hughes, daughter Carolyn Hughes (Steve Worley), sons Charles Hughes (Angela), Dennis Hughes (Christy), and Kevin Johnson (Jill), daughter in love Paige Jost, grandchildren Nathan, Shelby, Rylee Hughes and Summer, great-grandson, Jackson, sisters Jean Wade (Lemuel) and Barbara Hassett (Gary), several nieces and nephews, and best friend, Jane Kaylor.

Services will be held on Friday, Aug. 24, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of the North Chapel of the Chattanooga Funeral Home with Pastor Duane Mabee officiating.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23, and again on Friday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorial donations can be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 200 Central Avenue, Chattanooga, Tn. 37403.

Arrangements are held by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
