A Chattanooga Police officer responding to a call for service in the 4000 block of Oakwood Drive on Sunday, at approximately 11:35 a.m., "unintentionally" discharged his department-issued firearm, after a man killed himself.

Upon arrival, CPD officers located a suicidal man armed with a handgun. Officers gave verbal commands to him to lower the firearm. The man refused to follow commands and fired a round mortally wounding himself.

Major Crimes Investigators determined the officer fired three rounds, two striking a chair, and one striking the deceased man's leg.
