Flygirl author Sherri L. Smith visited Baylor

Sherri L. Smith, author of Flygirl, visited the Baylor campus on Monday.

Flygirl, the 2009 California Book Awards Gold Medalist, was required reading for Baylor Middle School students this year.

While on campus, Ms. Smith conducted workshops with sixth and seventh grade English classes and addressed Baylor students in both Upper School and Middle School chapels.

Other works by Ms. Smith, including Orleans and The Toymaker's Apprentice, appear on multiple state lists and have been named Amelia Bloomer and American Library Association Best Books for Young People selections. Her latest book is the young adult noir mystery, Pasadena.

Ms. Smith currently teaches in the M.F.A. writing program at Goddard College in Vermont and the children's writing M.F.A. program at Hamline University in Minnesota.
