Community Meeting Scheduled To View Plans For The New Harrison Elementary

  • Friday, August 31, 2018
A community meeting to view plans for the new Harrison Elementary School is scheduled for Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the auditorium at Harrison Elementary.  The public is invited to view the plans for the new school and provide thoughts for the architect and school administrators to consider as plans are finalized.

The new Harrison Elementary will be built on Highway 58 across the street from the existing school on property next to Brown Middle School. The new Harrison will have 80 classrooms, age-appropriate playgrounds for the different age groups in the school, a gym and makerspaces for children to use skills learned in STEM activities.  "Makerspaces allow children to work in groups and use concepts from science, technology, engineering and math to share ideas and unleash their creativity.  Makerspaces have led to the development of products that are providing solutions to today’s problems," officials said.

The completed new Harrison Elementary will provide space for up to 880 students.  Franklin Architects are the firm designing the new school for Harrison.  Representatives of the firm will be at the meeting to present initial plans for the school and answer questions.  Harrison Elementary School is in the Harrison Bay Learning Community.
