The residents of Morning Pointe of Hixson weren’t afraid to get their hands dirty in order to prepare some delicious food for their upcoming Family Night. Steak skewers with homemade coleslaw, fresh watermelon and ears of corn straight from the farm were on the menu for this highly anticipated event, so residents from the senior living community went to Heritage Harvest Farms in Chattanooga in search of fresh produce to serve.
“We gathered 300 ears of corn from the farm. It was a sight to see,” said Christine Rivers, the Life Enrichment director at Morning Pointe of Hixson.
“The residents dug right in to help, and we managed to shuck 300 ears of corn in less than an hour. Many of the residents grew up on farms, and this experience took them right back to the ‘good ol’ days.’ To hear their stories [was] priceless.”
