Halleston “Son” Douglas McGuire, Sr., 82, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, September 6, 2018 in a local nursing facility.

He was born to John and Annie Mae McGuire on May 13, 1936 and a graduate of Howard High School, class of 1961. He was a veteran of the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Annie Mae McGuire; sons, Halleston McGuire, Jr., Adrian McGuire and Andrew Jackson; brother, Benjamin L. McAfee, Sr.; sisters, Magnolia Green and Josephine “Beaut” Covington.

Survivors include his wife, Louise McGuire; sister, Ethel Thomas; brother, Michael Thomas; five daughters; two sons; nephews, Willie C. Norman, Halleston L. Toney, Sr., Melvin L. White and Brian K. McAfee; nieces, Charlotte Fitch, Debra Davis, Aleeta Norman, Taylor Dowdy, Kimberly Washington, LaShun Johnson and Brittni Allen; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He will lie-in-state on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 9 Taylor Funeral Home.

A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the chapel with Minister Irvin O. Overton officiating. Burial will be in National Cemetery.

Dona Marie Lindsey, 86, of Hixson, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, after a brief illness. She grew up in Erie, Pa., and is survived by her husband of 64 years, Merle J. Bertha Mae Talley, 95, passed away on Friday, September 21, 2018. She was a resident of Northwest Georgia, for over 93 years before moving to Chattanooga.   Bertha was also a member New Haven Baptist Church. Fight Breaks Out During Friday Dismissal At Central High School

Chattanooga Zoo Begins Construction On South American Expansion
