Remnants Of Hurricane Florence May Bring Strong Winds, Heavy Rain Into Sections Of East Tennessee

Remnants of Hurricane Florence may bring high winds and heavy rains into sections of East Tennessee.

The storm was expected on Sunday night and early Monday.

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT UNTIL 1AM EDT MON ...LOCALIZED FLOODING AND WINDY CONDITIONS ACROSS THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS THROUGH THIS EVENING...

THE REMNANTS OF FLORENCE WILL TRACK INTO OUR AREA OVERNIGHT. THE STRONG WINDS AROUND THIS SYSTEM WILL PRODUCE WINDY CONDITIONS ACROSS THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA AND NORTHEAST TENNESSEE THROUGH THIS EVENING. THE STRONG WINDS COMBINED WITH THE WET GROUND MAY DOWN TREES. BANDS OF LIGHT TO MODERATE RAIN, POSSIBLY HEAVY, WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE ACROSS THE REGION THIS EVENING. THE GREATEST COVERAGE AND INTENSITY OF THE RAIN WILL BE ACROSS SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA, CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST TENNESSEE, AND THE NORTHERN PLATEAU. LOCALIZED FLOODING IS POSSIBLE WHICH MAY PRODUCE PONDING OF LOW LYING AREAS, RAPID SMALL STREAM RISE, AND MINOR ROADWAY FLOODING. DUE TO THE MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS OF WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA, SOME OF THE RIVERS WILL RISE AT OR ABOVE FLOOD STAGE. THE FRENCH BROAD AND PIGEON RIVERS ARE EXPECTED TO RISE ABOVE FLOOD STAGE MONDAY AND MONDAY NIGHT WITH THE NOLICHUCKY RISING TO ACTION STAGE.
