Mocs Golfers Lead Memphis Intercollegiate

  • Monday, September 17, 2018
The Chattanooga Mocs turned in consistent rounds of 286 and 285 to lead the Memphis Intercollegiate after 36 holes Monday at Colonial Country Club. The 5-under total of 571 is six ahead of second-place Oral Roberts and seven clear of host Memphis.

Sophomore Oliver Simonsen is the individual leader. His 12-under 132, a school record for 36 holes, included an opening round 64 (-8). That was followed by a bogey-free 68 in the afternoon. His closest competitor shared a van ride with him in the morning.

Junior Will Porter nearly matched his compatriot with 6-under 66 over the opening 18.
He closed with 71 for a 137 (-7) total. The duo’s total of 130 over the first 18 is the best since Fredrik Qvicker (62) and Stephan Jaeger (65) combined for 127 in the final round of the 2008 Aldila Scenic City Invitational.

Lake Johnson fired level-par 72 in the afternoon to rank third on the squad at 151. That’s one clear of Etienne Brault and Alex Cobb at 152. Dominic Jones shot 156 as an individual.
