City Transportation Director Says He Is Okay With Whatever Council Decides On Electric Scooters

  • Tuesday, September 18, 2018

City Transportation Director Blythe Bailey said he is comfortable with any way the City Council decides to go on allowing electric scooters.

He said an Internet search does turn up many problems tossing a fleet of the scooters onto a city's streets can cause.

On the other hand, he said they provide an additional transportation option.

Mr. Bailey said he believes that many of the problems other cities are experiencing with the scooters might have been avoided if they had strict regulations in place from the beginning.

Councilwoman Carol Berz said, "I am really concerned with the way the resolution is written."

She said it states that helmets are encouraged, but she said, "Under the law I believe they are required."

With Mr. Bailey having to go to another meeting, the council will hear his latest presentation on the scooters at a later date.
