City Aims To Make It Easier For Community Groups To Use City Parks For Special Events

  • Tuesday, September 18, 2018

City officials are seeking to make it easier for community groups to use city parks for special events.

Tony Sammons, of city economic development, said groups currently have to pay fees for park use and they often appeal to the City Council to waive them.

He said it takes up council time dealing with frequent waiver resolutions.

He said the city would seek applications from groups who would not be required to pay fees - up to a limit of a total $50,000 under the current fee system.

A committee would meet every six months to make selections on which events would be approved.

Mr. Sammons said the city wants to animate all its parks - not just the major ones downtown.
