Opportunity Zone To Hold Celebration To Share Accomplishments And Connect Families With Community Resources

  • Wednesday, September 19, 2018

The public is invited to join in a celebration of accomplishments of the Opportunity Zone schools during the Community Celebration Phase II, scheduled for next Tuesday at The Howard School.

The Opportunity Zone schools will share their accomplishments and achievements over the past year.

Over 15 informational sessions will be available for teachers, parents and community members. The sessions will include information on Volkswagen eLabs, plans for events included in Parent University and mental health resources.  There will also be teacher focus groups and much more during the celebration event.

Last year’s event, sponsored by Roots Hair & Beauty and Chat 2.0, was attended by more than 500 community members.  The 2018 celebration includes a community partners’ hour from 5:30-6:30 p.m., followed by the community event starting at 6:30 p.m.

The community partners’ hour is a time for parents or residents of the community to get connected with community resources, programs and partners in the Opportunity Zone schools that could assist families. Over 20 agencies or organizations will have tables with information and representatives there to connect with interested families.   Agencies represented in the community partners’ hour will include the UTC Upward Bound program, the Family Justice Center, the Chattanooga City Youth and Family Development Department, Project College and Signal Centers.
