Laura Herndon
Laura Jeanne Herndon went to be with the Lord on September 16, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.
Laura was born February 3, 1930, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was a graduate of Soddy Daisy High School class of 1948.
After high school, she worked as a bank employee of Florida National Bank and later promoted to Vice President of Operations at Wachovia Bank where she retired after 30 years of service.
Laura was a loving and caring daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Her fierce love of life, generous spirit touched so many. In her later years, she was a volunteer and mentor. Nothing brought her more joy than to spend time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry J. Herndon, Cardell Chance, mother, Katherine London Jones, father, Henry T. Jones, and brother, Gordon London Jones.
Survivors include her sister, Francis Nelda Katherine Thompson of Apison; children, Alan (Barbara) Chance, William Chance, James (Lynn) Chance, Charles (Maria) Chance, Laura (Fred) Akins, Joyce Freire, Janice Swope, John Herndon, James (Marie) Herndon, Jessica Wunderlich as well as 18 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will have private services at a later date.
