Funeral services will be Friday for Karen Saxton, county school teacher and former missionary to India who died in a car wreck on Saturday.

Chattanooga Police responded at 5:15 p.m. to the wreck in the 5900 block of Highway 58.  Upon arrival officers located a vehicle driven by 21-year-old Allen Dickerson in the northbound lane and the Saxton vehicle in the southbound lane.

Police said the vehicle driven by Ms. Saxton was entering Highway 58 from Congress Lane when it pulled into the travel path of the Dickerson vehicle and the two vehicles collided.

The front of the Dickerson vehicle collided with the driver side of the Saxton vehicle.

Both vehicles rotated around before winding up in different lanes of travel.

Mr. Dickerson was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries by Hamilton County EMS. Ms. Saxton did not survive the crash.

Ms. Saxton was a teacher for 42 years and spent the past 24 years working at Westview Elementary School. As a young single woman, she was a missionary teacher in India.

The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 2-8 p.m.  at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 East Brainerd Road.
