I Love Mountain Creek Day presented by TenneSEA Kids 4 Clean Water will be Saturday, Sept. 29, from 9 a.m. until 1p.m.
It will be at Red Bank Elementary School.
Mary Beth Sutton said, "Come enjoy the beauty of Mountain Creek, an urban wildlife sanctuary just minutes from downtown Chattanooga.
"TenneSEA Kids 4 Clean Water invites you to learn more about our urban creek while experiencing it first hand. A family of otters was spotted on the creek recently, so hope they attend the event as well.
"TenneSEA has been collaborating with residents and businesses of the Mountain Creek watershed to protect and improve the creek.
With partners ranging from Komatsu to the Raines Group to Red Bank Elementary School and Friends of Red Bank Streams, from the city of Chattanooga and Hamilton County to Barge Design Solutions to the Wild Ones/Chattanooga Area Pollinator Partnership, we are making great strides in bringing life back to the creek and protecting the watershed itself. On Saturday, we are celebrating the creek and hope the otters come to celebrate as well.
"The Forest Kindergarteners will show off their skills leading a monarch count since the monarchs are already migrating through the area. We will also be planting more pollinator plants in the school rain garden and stream restoration area. We will talk about stream bank stabilization and learn DIY streambank protection techniques from staff of the City of Chattanooga Water Quality Department. We will also go on an otter watch, learn about birds using our Mountain Creek flyway, and investigate the critters who live in the creek."
Activities include:
Otter Spotting walk
Birds of the flyway walk
Creek Critter Catching
DIY Streambank Stabilization techniques
Pollinator and Rain Garden Planting
