DUI Charge Dismissed Against City Police Lieutenant

  • Thursday, December 5, 2019

A DUI charge was dismissed on Thursday against a Chattanooga Police lieutenant.

The district attorney's office moved to drop the charge against Lt. Joseph Carpenter in the courtroom of General Sessions Court Judge Christie Sell.

The DA's office said, "A standard test revealed his blood alcohol content (BAC) was .06 percent.  The legal limit is .08 percent.

"An individual can be arrested if it is below .08 percent, but there must be other factors, such as weaving, driving the wrong way, crashing, etc.

In this case, there was not enough evidence to prove impairment."
