Prolonged New Bout Of Rain May Bring Flooding To Chattanooga Area

  • Friday, February 15, 2019

A new round of rain, including expected heavy downpours on Tuesday, Wednesday, and possibly Thursday, could cause flooding problems, the National Weather Service said in a Hazardous Weather Statement.

The prolonged rainfall "will have the potential to cause flash flooding and flooding of rivers and creeks," the statement says.

Chattanooga Public Works is already gearing up to deal with the expected flooding.

The new batch of rain comes after Chattanooga already dealt with its rainest year ever in 2018. More heavy rains have followed early this year with more to come in the upcoming days.

Hamilton County Parks and Recreation Department closed the trail behind the Boathouse Restaurant west toward Manker Patten Tennis Club. It has also closed the area behind the Marsh Meeting Room, as well as the trail from behind Chattanooga State’s STEM School toward the Chickamauga Dam.
