Online Registration Available For Free Trapper Training Camps

  • Friday, February 15, 2019

Online registration is continuing for the first of two free trapper training camps to be hosted by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and the Tennessee Fur Harvesters.

The first camp is at TWRA’s Buffalo Ridge Refuge in Humphreys County on Feb. 22-24. The second camp is at TWRA’s Hiwassee Refuge in Meigs County near the Hamilton County community of Birchwood on March 15-17.

Online registration can be made at https://tn.gov/content/tn/twra/hunting/hunter-education.html. Online registration for the Hiwassee Refuge event is available after Feb. 15.

Each of the camps will have instruction to include live trapline, fur handling, set making, snaring, and trap modification. The 3-day event is for all ages.

Check-in for each of the training camps will begin with registration on Friday from 5-6:45 p.m. Saturday will start with breakfast at 7 a.m. with instruction throughout the day.

Three meals will be provided on Saturday and breakfast will be provided Sunday. On-site primitive camping is available and participants must provide their own camping gear, have appropriate clothing, and bring note taking materials. Hotels are located near each of the refuges.
