18 Apply To Be General Sessions Court Judge

Eighteen candidates have applied for an open judgeship in General Sessions Court. The deadline to apply was Friday at noon.

 

Those seeking to succeed Judge Clarence Shattuck so far include Gerald Webb, Jeffery Davis, Scott H. Grant, Mike Little, Carmen Ware, Jeffery B. Kopet, Bill W. Pemerton, Kevin Wilson, David Schmidt, Elizabeth Schmidt, Leslie Longshore, Philip R.

Strang, Boyd Patterson, Joseph Hollis Jr., Larry Ables, Kevin Beck, Ron Powers, and J. Cris Helton, who is the East Ridge city judge and Mr. Wilson is judge of Collegedate. Mr. Schmidt, Ms. Longshore and Mr. Ables are with the District Attorney's Office. Mr. Little and Mr. Patterson is with the Public Defender's Office. Mr. Powers is a magistrate.

 

The County Commission will interview the candidates on Wednesday, March 20, at 1 p.m.

 

The appointment is slated to be made at the regular commission meeting on Wednesday, March 27.

The new judge will be sworn in on Monday, April 1.

That judge will serve until the August 2020 county general election.

The winner of the judgeship in the election will serve the remainder of Judge Shattuck's term until the August 2022 election.
