Hattie Pearl Gideon, 91, of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2019, at her residence. 

She was a graduate of Decatur Negro High School of Decatur, Alabama. She retired from Cutters Laboratory and was also an Avon Representative for over 50 years.  Hattie was a member of Greater Friendship Primitive Baptist Church where she served in the choir, on the Sister’s Aide Society and attended Mamie Evans’ Sunday School class.  

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, John H. Gideon, Sr.; daughters, Earline Gaines and Mary McSears.  Survivors include her son, John H. Gideon, Jr. of Los Angeles, CA; daughters, Doretha (Herman) Saunders; Vivian (Glenn) Smith; grandchildren, Bettina Gideon Thomas, Jeffrey Gaines, and DeArmond Tony; as well as a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and dear friends.  

Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 16, from 6-8 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, July 17, at noon at Greater Friendship Primitive Baptist Church with Elder R. Lavon Yates as the eulogist.  Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
