The Young People’s Chorus of New York City will perform a concert on Thursday, July 25, at 7 p.m. in Lee University’s Pangle Hall. The YPC will be joined by Concinamus, the YPC National ensemble chorus.

“Lee University is honored to host the very first residency of YPC National, Inc., taking the principles and success of the highly respected Young People’s Chorus of New York City to the national level,” said Laud Vaught, music resource center coordinator.

Following a week-long residency at Lee University, this performance is the debut of Concinamus and will also include two world premieres from composers Bruce Adolphe and Jim Papoulis.

YPC’s Artistic Director Francisco J. Núñez will conduct both ensembles made up of young singers from New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Georgia, and the Dominican Republic.

“The chance to experience world premieres of pieces by two composers of international renown is a rare opportunity indeed,” said Mr. Vaught. “Current and upcoming leaders of the organization will come together with young performers from a broad geographical area to train, rehearse, and grow as they embark upon this expansion.”

The dynamic program will range from classical and contemporary compositions to Broadway, spiritual, folk, and popular music. It will also include choreography and a work by Ellen Reid, Tennessee’s 2019 Pulitzer Prize-winning composer.

The Young People’s Chorus of New York City was founded in 1988 by MacArthur Fellow Núñez. Under Francisco Núñez and Associate Artistic Director Elizabeth Núñez, the recipient of the 2017 Lee University School of Music Distinguished Alumnus Award, YPC reaches over 2,000 children annually in New York City and now, hundreds more through its new YPC National program.

The concert is free and open to the public. For those unable to attend, live stream viewing will be available at https://livestream.com/leeu
