John Hawkins

John Rufus Hawkins, Sr., 80, of Chattanooga, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2020, in the Hospice Care Center.  

He was a graduate of Howard High School. He retired from Alstom Power Plant after 44 years of service. John was the chairman of the Deacon Board of Rock Island Baptist Church. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Otis Hawkins and mother, Ollie Lampkins. 

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Leslie Hawkins; sons, John (Sharon) Hawkins, Jr. and Patrice Hawkins; daughter, Eboni Hawkins, all of Chattanooga; five grandchildren, John Hawkins III, Jonisha Hawkins, Johnathon Hawkins, Emari Lee, and Amora Scott; brother, Alvin Arrahmaan of Chattanooga; sisters, Dorris Davis and Jessie Ann (Jimmy) Anderson, both of Chattanooga; uncle, Pastor Archie (Sandra) Griffin of Chattanooga; dear friends, Anthony (April) Cook, Kenny Bostic, Bennie Ferguson, Pastor Eundra (Felicia) Porter, Cecil (Linda) Barber and Leonard Waller; and a host of nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. 

He will lie in state on Friday, Oct. 16, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. 

The family service will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel with Pastor Ronald Cook, Sr. as the eulogist.  Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
