Glass House Collective has been hosting a reinvigoration project utilizing input and volunteer help from local residents. The project between Crutchfield Street and Dodson Avenue is made possible by grant funding. The project is being accomplished through "workshops" which involve volunteers - both youth and adults and professional artists.
Saturday was one of those workshops. Volunteers came out to paint the sidewalks.
Glass House Collective Executive Director Teal Thibaud said she wanted to include local youth in this creation, "The idea was to create a 'walk of fame' on the sidewalk so that kids that typically frequent the East Chattanooga YFD feel like they are a star and appreciated. In addition to making the neighborhood kids feel valued, the sidewalk also draws a 'safe route' to the new Save-A-Lot grocery store."
Local artist Tu$on and community member Sarah Page led the COVD-safe volunteer day.
This creative community engagement process involved input from more than 300 local residents. Glass House Collective identified sidewalks, street trees and an asphalt mural as community priorities in the area. CDOT began the project this fall with the first workshop held on Oct. 3. The goal of completion is May 2021.
