James Lawson
James P. Lawson, auctioneer and owner of Homestead and Lawson Auctions, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 7, 2020.
He was born in Chattanooga on July 5, 1934. He moved to Louisville, Ky., at three years old but was able to return to his beloved hometown in 1969 where he began his business that he successfully ran for over 50 years. He was a devoted family man and especially enjoyed his time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was loved and respect by most all who knew him. He enjoyed his music and watching boxing matches.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Paul Lawson, Sr. and Euva Burrell Lawson, along with his wives, Elizabeth Blank Lawson and Carolyn Zoll Lawson.
He is survived by his son, James Lawson III (Bobbee), daughters, Melinda Lawson (Debra) and Becky Lawson Jarvis (BJ), stepchildren, Tony Palmer, Tina Pardue, and Tonya Tippens. Grandchildren JJ (Stephanie), TJ, Jennifer, Christie, and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 4–8 p.m. at Camp Columbus at 8601 Camp Columbus Road, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
Graveside services will be on Thursday, Sept. 17, at Chattanooga Memorial Park.
Flowers may be sent to Companion Funeral Home or in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga.
Visitation will be held in an open air pavilion at Camp Columbus. Per the current health situation and mandates, we ask that visitors adhere to CDC guidelines including social distancing and facial coverings.
