Thelma Jackson
Thelma Parks Jackson, 93, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, in Chattanooga.
Thelma was born the second of nine children, to the late, John and Nina Reese Parks, on Aug. 23, 1927, in Greenville, Ga. She was educated by the Meriwether County School District.
In May of 1945, Thelma was joined in holy matrimony to the late, Hubert Jackson, Sr. While residing in Meriwether County, Thelma and Hubert welcomed three boys, Hubert, Jr., John Melvin, and Jerome. The Jacksons eventually moved to Chattanooga, where they welcomed their final child, and only girl, Doris Renee'.
Thelma retired from Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute after 20 years of distinguished service. Thelma was a longtime member of New Monumental Baptist Church and an active member of the Verbena Club, Nurses Guild, Deaconess Board, and Usher Board. Mrs. Jackson was also a great baker and an avid watcher of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
As her health deteriorated, Thelma was cared for by her oldest son, and devoted caretaker, Hubert Jackson, Jr. On the morning of Feb. 16, Ms. Thelma Jackson was reunited with her beloved son, John Melvin.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents and son, John Melvin.
Left to cherish her memories are her children, Hubert Jackson, Jr., Chattanooga, Jerome (Ursula) Jackson, Tacoma, Wa., and Doris (Ken) Amos, College Park, Ga.; four siblings, Wade Parks, Chicago, Elmira Alford, Greenville, Ga., Clifford Parks, College Park, Ga., Juanita Simmons, Chicago; 11 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Public viewing will be held from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday, Feb. 24. A private funeral service will be held. Interment will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens East.
