On Monday, June 7, 2021, Matthew Emory Watson II, loving father of Matthew Emory and Angela Faith Watson, departed his earthly life and began his heavenly life at the age of 82.

Matthew, fondly known as “Sonny”, was born on August 15, 1938, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Matthew and Sylvia Watson. After graduating from High School, he immediately joined the United States Navy and served his country as an Aircraft Workers Apprentice.

Matthew worked at Carter Carburetor Company as a supervisor until its closure in 1985. Matthew was a loving father who taught his daughter to fish and his son to draw. He had a great love of life.

Playing dominos and backgammon were some of his favorite pastimes. His warm personality and gentle voice were contagious to everyone he met. His battle with serious health issues showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, Matthew was a hero and stayed strong until the very end.

Matthew was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Sylvia Watson; brother, James Thomas Watson; and sisters, Helen (Elmer) Rogers and Dorothy Miller.

He leaves to cherish the memories of his life, son, Matthew E. Watson III; daughter, Angela F. Watson; granddaughter, Ayana Z. Chapman; great granddaughter, August S. Chapman; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and acquaintances; his furry grand-dog, Kensa and great-grand dog, Mr. Bean.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 18, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Arrangements are by John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 423 622-9995.
