LEGAL ASSISTANT

The Chattanooga Housing Authority (CHA) seeks a qualified individual for the full-time position of Legal Assistant to provide a broad range of administrative support to the Legal and Human Resources Departments. The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing the In-House Counsel with assistance in court; drafting correspondence and pleadings; proofreading documents and organizing files; filing and recording documents with the appropriate office/courts; E-filing with Federal Courts; answering incoming phone calls from residents, participants, and outside attorneys; maintaining the In-House Counsel’s calendar; preparing travel and expense forms; processing invoices; providing assistance during benefit open enrollment and performance evaluation periods; drafting Family and Medical Leave Act designation notices and tracking employees’ leave; processing, tracking, and reporting Workers’ Compensation claims; assisting with onboarding new employees; and performing other administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications: High school diploma/GED required and Bachelor’s Degree preferred, with one to three year’s secretarial experience in a law firm, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which, in the sole determination of the CHA, provides the required knowledge and abilities. Excellent writing and communication skills required. A public interest background is preferred.

CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR FOR CHA

The Chattanooga Housing Authority (CHA) is seeking a highly talented professional to fill the position of Criminal Investigator. The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, conducting investigations into allegations of either civil or criminal misconduct by CHA employees and residents. The successful candidate will: have experience in conducting proactive policing activities utilizing community policing principles in public housing developments; have knowledge of the operations of a Public Housing Authority; have excellent communication and analytical skills; have the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with officials, employees, and the general public; and basic computer skills.

Qualifications: Must have an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field and two to three years of work experience. Current POST Certified officer is required. Experience in supervising or coordinating policing activities in public housing developments is desired. The successful candidate must be proficient in all aspects of criminal law.
